A grand capital-to-capital journey, almost entirely on cycle paths. We leave Berlin through the Fläming forests to reach Wittenberg, Luther's town, and then the Elbe, which we will not leave again: water meadows, brick villages, Torgau and its castle, Meissen and its porcelain.
After a free half-day in Dresden, the river cuts through the sandstone cliffs of Saxon Switzerland before crossing into Bohemia. The final stages wind through the orchards and vineyards of Litoměřice and Mělník, at the confluence with the Vltava, which we follow to the Charles Bridge.
